Inclement Mangalore weather defers foundation-stone laying by PM

June 23, 2006,ONGCNews

Weather played spoilsport as Mangalore was to host Prime Minister's visit for laying the foundation stone of the Rs. 4,900 Crore ONGC Petrochemicals Complex there on 23rd June 2006.

The Prime Minister's plane hovered over the coastal town for over an hour before being diverted back, due to poor visibility unsuitable for landing.

Announcing the deferment of the foundation-stone laying, C&MD of ONGC Mr. R S Sharma said that the Prime Minister will come back later for the event.

ONGC Petrochemicals Complex is being built over 500 acres of land in Managalore Special Economic Zone, to feed on the 2 million metric tonnes per annum (mmtpa) of Heavy Naphtha from MRPL to deliver 0.95 mmtpa of Paraxylene and 0.15 mmtpa of Benzene, both of which are in good demand.
